Celebrating the New Year

The New Year is the time for taking stock of what you've been up to, and setting your goals for the coming year and the future.

So it's pretty amazing, when you hear what David Miscavige has to say about the last year in Scientology, which is what he covered in his keynote address at last night's New Years event (which is going to be shown in all the churches and missions around the world on New Years Eve.)

But if last year was impressive, next year is going to be utterly incomparable.

I'll let you watch the event yourself to find out why!

Backing Up the Fire Fighters

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers who are helping in Victoria are doing a fantastic job under really trying conditions.

If you've even been that close to a fire, the smoke permeates everything. It's hot, and dirty and it smells dangerous, and is.

So for the fire fighters to keep working, day after day, is pretty heroic. And the VMs who are there, helping them, are real heroes in their own right.

A Great Contest

I'm a dedicated Science Fiction fan, and I really love the Writers of the Future anthologies.

I find that the short stories in these collections really are much finer stories than in any other collections on the market.

But what's more is that this program is an incredible career booster for the participants.

On the Writers of the Future web site it tells all the services provided to the finalists at the yearly awards weekend.

I also find it very fitting that L. Ron Hubbard, who was always working out how to really help people, created this contest and how it has continued on.

Volunteering - a Way of Life

I thought this was an interesting article, considering tomorrow is International Volunteers Day:

December 2006
Together We Stand:
Volunteers and Volunteer Resource Managers Connected

By Susan J. Ellis

December 5 is International Volunteer Day (IVD, www.worldvolunteerweb.org/intl-volunteer-day.html) and, this year in the United States, the Congress of Volunteer Administrator Associations will be deliberating the future of our professional networks on that date. But this happened by coincidence, not purpose. Interestingly, International Volunteer Manager Appreciation Day (www.ivmaday.org) was originally created a number of years ago as an additional focus of IVD and so scheduled also for December 5th. But a majority of the new planning team (and many of the old) felt that this might confuse the public, draw attention away from the main purpose of acknowledging volunteers, and/or not give volunteer resource managers time in the limelight by themselves, so the date was changed to November 1st as of this year. And the separation is so complete that the IVMA Day site does not even mention IVD as anything of possible import to practitioners.>> continued

Successes of Scientology

If one honestly avails himself of the technology and sincerely applies himself to gain the benefits offered, there are apparently no limits to what can be achieved.

(From the book What is Scientology?)

The Role of the Scientology Volunteer Minister

A very interesting article by L. Ron Hubbard

We are today at a watershed of history and our actions today will decide whether the world goes up from here or continues to slide into some new dark age.

It is important to understand bad conditions don’t just happen. The cultural decay we see around us isn’t haphazard. It was caused. Unless one understands this he won’t be able to defend himself or reach out into the society with effectiveness.

A society is capable of surviving for thousands of years unless it is attacked from within or without by hostile forces. Where such an attack occurs, primary targets are its religious and national gods and heroes, its potential of leadership and the self-respect and integrity of its members.

Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is its religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin.

Religion is the first sense of community. Your sense of community occurs by reason of mutual experience with others. Where the religious sense of community and with it real trust and integrity can be destroyed then that society is like a sand castle unable to defend itself against the inexorable sea.

For the last hundred years or so religion has been beset with a relentless attack. You have been told it’s the “opiate of the masses,” that it’s unscientific, that it is primitive; in short, that it is a delusion.

But beneath all these attacks on organized religion there was a more fundamental target: the spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self-respect and peace of mind. This black propaganda may have been so successful that maybe you no longer believe you have a spiritual nature but I assure you you do.>>

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Scientology is a twentieth-century religion. It comprises a vast body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths, and prime among those truths: Man is a spiritual being endowed with abilities well beyond those which he normally envisages. He is not only able to solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also to achieve new states of awareness he may ever have dreamed possible.

I have found this to be true 100% for myself. I highly recommend finding out about it and using it.

England - the Center of the Scientology World this weekend

What a great weekend for Scientologists in England and Europe - Four huge events packed into a four-day weekend no one will ever forget.

It started with the IAS event on Friday. I couldn't get my friends who were there to tell me who won the IAS Freedom Medals but they told me that David Miscavige's speech was awesome and that the whole event totally smoked.

The next day was a full-days-worth of seminars on human rights, our volunteer ministers programs, anti-drug activities, psych busting and the Way to Happiness. Again, my friends couln't stop raving about them (without telling me anything substantial about them, as they insist I need to get that information when I go this coming weekend in Los Angeles.

Then Sunday was the Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology of London.

Here's a posting I found on that.

What a Day in London and What a Weekend! David Miscavige Dedicates New Church

"We are about to drive home the message ‘This is Scientology ‘ like you have never seen," said David Miscavige , chairman of the Church of Scientology (sic.) [David Miscavige is actually the Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center.]

So reports Robert Booth on Saturday in the Sunday Times - a story that got picked up internationally.

And Sunday’s grand opening was everything Mr. Miscavige promised.

The Scientology Press Office announces the news as follows:

With thousands of Scientologists, local residents and officials in attendance, the new Church of Scientology of London opened its doors.

Mr. David Miscavige , Chairman of the Board of the Religious Technology Center and leader of the Scientology religion , stressed the historical importance of London. "This is the city L. Ron Hubbard himself [founder of the Scientology religion] selected as home to the first Scientology organization. This is also the city wherein he first defined the human spirit as an immortal being possessed of capabilities beyond anything predicted, and so arrived at the axiomatic truths on which the whole of Scientology is founded. Your early London organizations were also the original proving ground for the bulk of Mr. Hubbard’ s social betterment programs which are used to uplift neighborhoods just like this one."
And finally, today is (was) the Charity Ball ( which I haven't heard about yet).

I can't wait till this weekend when I get to see the event myself.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Bringing effective help to the community

This web site is a good description of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Bringing effective help to the community

Over the past few years there has been a dramatic increase in the work of the VMs all over the world.

I think the real point where the program took off was when hundreds of Scientologists came to New York to help after the 9/11 catastrophe.

People realized that as a Volunteer Minister, their help was extremely valuable. Those who went got first-hand certainty that the motto of the Volunteer Ministers was actually true. You couldn't have a worse scenario that being in the pit at Ground Zero, surrounded by the ever-present reminder of man's inhumanity, and yet caring for the true heroes, whose only motivation was to find any survivors and save lives.

I know that I, personally, had a real change from that, and have become much more active as a Scientologist> since.

Child Soldiers in the Congo

According to Amnesty International there are as many as 11,000 Congolese child soldiers still missing

GOMA, Congo (Reuters) -- Children in Congo are still being recruited by armed groups and authorities are not doing enough to stop ex-child soldiers being sucked back into a life of violence and abuse, Amnesty International said on Wednesday.

The rights group said in a report at least 11,000 children in Democratic Republic of Congo were still in the hands of rebel or militia gangs or unaccounted for three years after the end of a war in which they were captured and forced to fight.

This was in spite of a program launched by Congo's government two years ago to release child soldiers and reintegrate them into civilian life in the vast, former Belgian colony, Amnesty said.

"As long as the government and the international community continue to fail to meet the needs of released children, these children are at risk of being quickly redrawn into armed forces or armed groups -- or of being abandoned to an impoverished and forlorn existence," said Tawanda Hondora, deputy director of Amnesty's Africa program.

Literacy, Test Scores and Solutions

An Oct. 7 ABC News report stated that "at a growing number of the country's best liberal arts colleges … the SAT college admissions test has outlived its usefulness."

There are several aspects to this problem:

1. When teachers put all their energy into helping their kids pass tests, this is not necessarily preparing them to be able to do well in life or in higher education.

2. Test scores have been declining steadily despite tons of money being poured into the system.

There needs to be a technology of study to pull this out of the headspin it's in.

Study technology, developed does in fact, exist.

It was developed by L. Ron Hubbard when he found that education levels simply were inadequate for people to get the skill required from their Scientology training.

A simple outline of it is available through the Scientology Handbook.

Applied Scholastics International
is a secular program that provides training in study technology to educators, mentors, tutors and parents.

With this technology not only do test scores improve but so does actual performance.

Bono and Oprah shop for Africa

What a clever idea!

Campaigning rocker Bono and talk show host Oprah Winfrey joined forces to shop for Africa in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday.

The famous friends embarked on a high-profile shopping trip to publicise the new Red clothes, accessories and gadgets, with sales proceeds going towards fighting AIDS in Africa.

After buying Gap's special Red line in downtown Chicago, the pair went to an Apple store and bought the Red iPod music player.

Other companies introducing special Red lines for the scheme include Motorola Inc, Converse Inc and Emporio Armani.

Bono enthuses: "Some people won't put on marching boots, so we've got to get to people where they are at, and they're in the shopping malls.

"Now you're buying jeans and T-shirts, and you're paying for 10 women in Africa to get medication for their children with HIV.>>

A Well Deserved Nobel Peace Prize

At a crowded press conference at his Grameen Bank, Dr Yunus expressed the hope that the political leaders would transform the united celebration of winning the Nobel Prize by the people into politics and take the nation forward.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the award of the coveted Nobel Peace Prize to Dr. Muhammad Yunus of the Grameen Bank is a fitting recognition of the innovative banking concepts and the remarkable services rendered by him in alleviating poverty not only in Bangladesh but also in many other developing and developed countries.

Extending heartfelt felicitations to Dr. Younus on Saturday, the Prime Minister said that the prize is not only an honour for Dr. Younus and Bangladesh but for the entire developing world.

He said that the innovative methods of micro financing introduced by Dr. Younus has helped millions of people across the world to pull them out of the vicious circle of poverty on self help basis.

Prime Minister said that the remarkable thing about Dr. Younus's approach is that by helping people help themselves, he not only makes them financially independent but also t the same time instills a sense of pride in them to become proud and productive citizens.

He stated that Pakistan has tremendously benefited from the Grameen Model and he is personally grateful to Dr. Younus for his constant help in introducing micro credit in Pakistan.

Freedom from Want

I found this in YouTube and thought it was something to share:

It is pretty shocking how many people on earth suffer from the lack of the lack of the most basic things needed for survival.

Especially at a time when there is no shortage of food or supplies to care for this.

It is up to each of us to ensure that Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is brought about for all.

There is an aspect of Scientology technology on raising a child to be happy, sane, responsible, moral and successful in life. I learned that technology and used it from the beginning of my daughter's life. She is now a young woman of 21 years who is happy, sane, responsible, moral, lives life with vigor and enthusiasm, has lots of friends and is consistently successful in anything she sets out to do.

I can say with complete certainty that this technology works. The Scientology Handbook chapter Children is a good source of data on this.

Helping Kids

If you are running into any trouble with your kids, I really recommend reading the articles on the Scientology Handbook on children.

They are very simple. You might even think they are TOO simple. But boy do they work.

So if you do need some help, check it out. Here a link to that section of the site.

Scientology Assists

The Scientology Handbook has a chapter on Assists for Illnesses and Injuries. An assist is undertaken to help a person confront physical difficulties.

I had a situation years ago with shooting pains occurring in the calf of one leg. It felt like jolts of electricity going through the leg and the problem kept getting worse. After several weeks of this I had trouble walking on the leg.

I started getting Nerve Assists. These assists improved my communication with the body, particularly in relation to the nervous system and brought relief. After about 10 days of receiving daily Nerve Assists at about 1/2 hour each day, the shooting pains entirely disappeared and never returned. This is the effectiveness of Scientology technology. This and other Scientology assists are simple and can be learned and applied easily.

The Scientology Handbook

The Scientology Handbook has an excellent chapter on children.

One of the ironic and tragic aspects of our national (and international) crime of putting our kids on a schedule 2 narcotic (Ritalin) to handle a "disorder" no one can test for or prove (and that, for ages past, has been called "childhood" not quote ADHD), is that with a brief study of 20 or so pages of the Scientology Handbook it wouldn't be necessary.

The chapters of the book have been published separately as booklets, so you don't even have to buy the whole book.

There are simple procedures anyone can learn in 1/2 and hour or so that help calm a child down when he or she is upset, help direct his attention, and get him/her interested in the environment and out of whatever odd behavior he/she might be into.

And for the lack of this knowledge we're setting our kids up to be addicts the rest of their lives, altering their personality, and wrecking their and our own futures.

And the money keeps pouring in to the drug companies.

Child Dianetics

There is a book called "Child Dianetics," which is available for purchase online.

The figures of how many kids are considered ADHD or ADD today are terrifying. All those kids being put on amphetamines to control their behavior!

And it is particularly tragic that what gets called ADHD is really normal childhood behavior, and the child can be helped so easily.

Child Dianetics is a very simple book. The techniques in it are simple and easy to learn.

And they are remarkably effective.

You can purchase it online here

Mexican Scientologists Anti-Drug Campaign

Here's a great story on the Scientology News Room on the work of Mexican Scientologists in combatting the drug problem in their country.

Today's news on www.scientologytoday.org again talks about step being taken to help our children.

"With an estimated 1.2 million children trafficked each year for exploitative labor or sex slavery, over 300,000 child soldiers — some as young as 8, and 115 million primary school-aged children denied any formal education whatsoever, the international community needs to become far more effective in ensuring the basic human rights to which children are entitled."

It goes on to talk about the efforts of Youth for Human Rights International and their presentation to the UN about their public service announcements.

The photo above is from one of the public service announcements. Cute, eh?

Helping Kids say No to Drugs in Hungary

It's been said that kids are our most precious natural resource, and that is so true.
Drugs have become more and more prevalent in society, and children at younger and younger ages are exposed to them.

Anything you can do to help kids say no to drugs is worth the time and effort.

A few years ago, at the Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology of San Francisco, David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center spoke of a shift of emphasis the of the Scientology religion in light of the terror attacks of 9/11.

He said:

"Two years ago we launched massive new programs on several fronts. While the world spoke of terrorism and the immediate military response, we recognized those acts of devastation as but a mere symptom of the greater illnesses plaguing man.
Scientologists are committed to help people live drug-free lives.

The Church of Scientology International has published literally millions of anti-drug booklets in 20 languages. If you would like copies, contact the Church. Contact information is available at the Scientology Press Office web site or the Scientology anti-drug site.

Scientology Assists

Assists are very very simple Scientology processes. Any adult and most children except for very young ones, can learn to give assists.

They are enorously helpful.

Here's a story of a very young girl who learned how to give assists:

PERM, RUSSIA: When an 8-year old of this Ural mountains city learned about the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, it was not the first time she wanted to help others.

But it was the first time she learned how.

After she studied the simple but powerful technique of delivering Scientology assists, the young girl began helping much older people, who visited the Volunteer Minister tent in search of relief from the pain and suffering they were experiencing.

Assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard. They operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. Assists are used to alleviate stress and physical aches and pains, or to orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment.

Another Scientology principle is that children are not to be treated as though they are inferior — rather, Scientologists treat children with respect, decency and kindness.

In a chapter of the Scientology Handbook called "Children", L. Ron Hubbard states:

"You have no right to deny your child the right to contribute.

"A human being feels able and competent only so long as he is permitted to contribute as much or more than he has contributed to him."

The chapters of the Scientology Handbook have been published as booklets. These are studied by every Scientology Volunteer Minister, so that they become well-versed in the handling of life's everyday problems. They are simple enough to be understood by children, and it's no surprise when the kids want to help, too.

After all — a small child can make a big impact.

Helping Others by Happy

Happiness was defined by L. Ron Hubbard as:

"the overcoming of not unknown obstacles toward a known goal and, transiently (passing quickly or soon), the contemplation of, or indulgence in, pleasure."

If you use this definition in helping people, it becomes real help.

Rather than help someone work out how to avoid work, or get away with things -- help them get into things.

If this doesn't make complete sense to you, try something out as an experiment.

Spot something you want to accomplish that forwards your own survival and the survival of your family and friends.

Work out something you can do to move yourself closer to accomplishing it.

Now go out and do it.

Check it out of a dose of happiness.

Helping People

Here's what L. Ron Hubbard wrote about helping people in his essay titled "My Philosophy"

It's just one more point where I completely see eye to eye with his own personal views of life:

"I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days."

And, of course, what Mr. Hubbard did in discovering and communicating and Scientology technology has made it possible for anyone to learn to really help his fellow man and return to him the dignity and self-respect each member of the human family truly deserves.

Wow. I certainly waxed poetic there!

Permitting Children to Help

One of the best ways to help kids is to permit them to help.

As a Scientologist it's not surprising to me to hear of the kinds of miracle gains people have from Scientology and Dianetics counseling, but this is a terrific example of how it can apply to all kinds of situations in life -- like improving your game as a goalie!

How to Help Others

The best way I have found to help other people is firstly to be there for them. To me this means using tools to help people handle whatever problem they may be running into. I didn't realize how many different things this can involve, but the good thing is that L. Ron Hubbard came up with amazing ways to deal with life's challenges.

It's all the Scientology Handbook.

The Right to Help

At the Celebrity Center Gala two weeks ago, the Vice President of Celebrity Centre gave a terrific quote by L. Ron Hubbard.

It was something to the effect that the greatest human right there is is not the right to assembly, freedom of speech or religion -- rather it is the right to help.

I would never have thought of that, but it is so true.

On the new website for Youth for Human Rights (www.youthforhumanrights.org), there are 30 PSAs (Public Service Announcements) that are so touchy and really give a message of the fact tat men and women are basically good and want to survive.

The PSAs are a great piece of art and communication to anyone interested in Human Rights for real and for truly making a difference.

Here is the exact URL for the PSAs: http://www.youthforhumanrights.org/watchads/index.html

Self Analysis

One of my favorite Scientology books is Self Analysis, because it is very easy to learn to use and you can help just about anyone by using this as an auditor (a person trained and qualified in applying Dianetics and/or Scientology processes and procedures to individuals for their betterment; called an auditor because auditor means one who listens.)

The Scientology Handbook

There are many ways that one person can help out another person who is having difficulties in life.

As a Scientologist the main tool I use is the Scientology Handbook. This has an answer for just about every situation. I gave a copy to a friend of mine who is not a Scientologist and he uses it all the time for problems at work, in the family or whatever. The thing is these simple actions can be used by anybody.

Volunteer Ministers in South Africa

I had to add this in. This is an article about Scientology Volunteer Ministers hard at work in South Africa

Scientology Volunteer Ministers have joined with rescue teams around Port Elizabeth to help in the aftermath of flooding that left thousands homeless this week.

Torrential rains caused roads and schools to be closed and left most of the area without electricity. Almost all of Port Elizabeth's low-lying areas were transformed into endless lakes of muddy water.

Worst affected were thousands of residents living in shacks in informal settlements in low lying areas.

Working alongside the rescue teams the volunteer ministers collected donations of food and clothing and distributed them to those in need and worked on repairing and constructing homes.

They also helped relief workers and survivors alike with Scientology assists, techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard that alleviate stress and physical aches and pains, and orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment.

Although the immediate danger is over the Volunteer Ministers team are continuing to work with community leaders to help them cope with the needed reconstruction of the area.

The Problem with Kids

The main problem with kids is their parents.

I remember the first time I read this quote by L. Ron Hubbard "The main problem with children is how to live with them. The adult is the problem in child raising, not the child. A good, stable adult with love and tolerance in his heart is about the best therapy a child can have.

"The main consideration in raising children is the problem of training them without breaking them. You want to raise your child in such a way that you don’t have to control him, so that he will be in full possession of himself at all times. Upon that depends his good behavior, his health, his sanity.

"Children are not dogs. They can’t be trained like dogs are trained. They are not controllable items. They are, and let’s not overlook the point, men and women. A child is not a special species of animal distinct from man. A child is a man or a woman who has not attained full growth."

I so totally agreed with it. It was exactly the way I felt about it.

So I think the most usual problem with kids is their parents.

YOUTH FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

I wrote about this earlier but want to include some more information, as there is just a terrific response to these public service announements that are currently being distributed by Churches of Scientology around the world.

Recently Mr. David Miscavige hosted an event aboard the motorvessel Freewinds, where new public service announcements were released. These are very special PSAs with a very special message.

As a Scientology Volunteer Minister I am going to help get them distributed and seen everywhere I can - they are just amazing.

What they depict is true examples of violations of each of the points of the United Nations Declaration for Human Rights. They really communicate what people's rights actually are and I was amazed to learn how many people don't know their god-given rights.

I hope that getting these seen will help people be more tolerant of each other and bring about respect in the world - I believe they will.

To see the ones published so far go to the Youth for Human Rights website.

What a Child Really Needs

Here's one of my favorite quotes from L. Ron Hubbard:

“A good, stable adult with love and tolerance in his heart is about the best therapy a child can have.”

That's one think I love about the Scientology religion. It makes so much sense!

Helping Kids in India

There are some great stories on the ScientologyVolunteer Ministers web site of the work Mohammad Khalil Ullah is doing, using
L. Ron Hubbard technology to help the kids of Calcutta.

There are more than 12 million people living in Calcutta. Many of them in the slums. These kids don't have a chance for a decent life. Most of them are without education; far too many fall into the hands of drug and sexual traffickers. Even if a child avoids getting involved in crime, what chance does he or she have to move up in society without knowing how to read.

In his speech called This is Scientology Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center emphasizes that the solutions we need today are found in the material but in the spiritual. Mr. Ulla is someone who recognizes this and has been using Scientology technology to help resolve serious issues in society.

Making Life a Bit Easier on Kids

Sometimes in a supermarket or a mall, or out on the street, I see a mom haul off a whack her kid and I sort of fast forward the picture and see two very estranged people five or ten years up the line, with mom and daughter or son at each others' throats or, even worse, not communicating to each other at all.

It makes for a miserable life.

And it is so totally unnecessary.

There is a brilliant chapter, a compilation of works by L. Ron Hubbard on the raising of children, in the Scientology Handbook

A Legacy of Help in South Asia

There's a story on the web site of the Church of Scientology of San Francisco about a really extraordinary young woman. A Scientologist from Santa Barbara (who was also a member of the Scientology Church of San Diego while she was a college student there), has done so much to help the children of Sri Lanka.

The article is in Freedom Magazine and it shows how much one person can do when they have the dedication and the skill.

New Anti-Drug Booklets

The Scientology News site has a story about the new anti-drug publications released by the Church of Scientology International.

Church's 10 million drug information booklets lend key support to UN's "Drugs are not Child's Play" program

LOS ANGELES, CA — Bolstering UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's call to "arm people with the information they need to say no to drugs," the Church of Scientology International (CSI) today announced a major step-up in its two-decade-long "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" worldwide drug awareness campaign.

Just one week after the UN's Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) released its 2006 World Drug Report on the International Day against Drug Abuse at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, the Los Angeles-based Church of Scientology International has unveiled 10 new drug information booklets for use in the world's largest-ever grassroots anti-drug initiative.>>

Human Trafficking

I read this story on the Church of Scientology of San Francisco web site. I had no idea the number of children being trafficked in slavery. Here's what it said:

"With an estimated 1.2 million children trafficked every year, the need to put an end to modern slavery was the emphasis of a ceremony held in Brussels to honor four "Human Rights Heroes" in Brussels last week. The event was co-organized by Youth for Human Rights International and the European Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance with the support of United Sikhs International, the Church of Scientology International European Human Rights Office and the Help the Needy Foundation of Bulgaria."

I think the work Youth for Human Rights is doing to promote universal human rights education can make a fundamental difference in people's attitudes and it a first, basic step to bringing about human rights.

I've seen some of the public service announcements and they really make human rights real to you. Three of them just went up as podcasts (you can find them by searching for Youth forHuman Rights International). I'm really proud that the Church of Scientology International produced these ads.

East Wave Radio Teams up with Drug-Free Marshals to Tackle Drug Education

Drug Free Marshals of South Africa

I ran across this great article on the Drug Free Marshals of South Africa. It shows how much community groups can do when they team up to tackle the drug problem.

The Church of Scientology International Anti-Drug web site gives lots of really useful tips on how to combat drug abuse. People of all faiths are welcome to use this information.

There is more information about these anti-drug activities at the Scientology Press Office.

Helping with Scientology Assists

A friend of mine had a pretty bad accident the other day. I was able to help her recover from it fast by giving her Scientology assists. Scientology assists are described as follows on the Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site:

"Assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard. They operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. Assists are used to alleviate stress, or to orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment."

Before I became a Scientologist and learned these and other Scientology tools I used to feel a bit helpless when someone was in trouble. What I love about being a Volunteer Ministers is what I learned by studying the Scientology Handbook. It has enabled me to help people on countless occasions.

Scientology Volulnteer Ministers

All over the world, Scientology Volunteer Ministers help their neighbors, their community and people in need wherever they may be.

Right now, anyone who wants to join the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Disaster Relief Team in Java is invited to contact their nearest Scientology church.

Here is news on what the team is doing in Java.

he first team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers has begun providing trauma relief in Yogyakarta, Indonesia to survivors of the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that killed at least 6,234 people, injured an estimated 46,000 to 53,000 and damaged or destroyed more than 139,000 homes.

Hospitals have set up makeshift wards in parking structures and parking lots, where patients on a wild assortment of cots, beds, mattresses — many just lying on cardboard on the cement floors — await help from doctors and nursing staff who are struggling to cope with the nearly 19,000 who have been hospitalized for injuries sustained during the cataclysm.

To provide as much help as possible the Scientology Volunteer Ministers are training nursing staff and families of the injured in how to administer Scientology assists.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Disaster Relief Teams will train anyone who wishes to join them and help in this effort. To learn more about how you can help, contact:

SCIENTOLOGY VOLUNTEER MINISTERS INDIA GOODWILL TOUR IN KOLKATA, INDIA

Scientology.org published an article this week about the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour in India.

They are in Kolkata (I had always known this city as Calcutta).

Here's what it says:

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers India Goodwill Tour is working with the street-children of Kolkata to give them the tools they need to create a better future.

With over 4 million living in the slums of this city, known in the West as Calcutta, widespread illiteracy is a barrier to these street-children gaining the skills they need to move out of the slums and into mainstream society. This is compounded by increasing rates of drug addiction among children as young as 8 years of age, many of whom turn to crime to support their habits.

The Volunteer Ministers start their work with these youth by providing "group processing," a technique developed by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1950s which can be run on large groups of people to help them increase their awareness and ability.

Volunteer Ministers are training up teams who can carry this program further into the community

Volunteer Ministers are training up teams who can carry this program further into the community

Many of the Scientologists who have volunteered their time to carry out this goodwill tour in India are from Scientology churches in the United Kingdom.

A Helpful Quote

“Help take care of the planet : The idea that one has a share in the planet and that one can and should help take care of it may seem very large and to some, quite beyond reality. But today what happens on the other side of the world, even so far away, can affect what happens in your own home. ” — L. Ron Hubbard.

I found this quote on this Freedom Magazine page. If we all did this the world would be a much happier place.

This is Scientology

Mr. David Miscavige did a presentation called This is Scientology and this has been turned into a DVD. Excerpts of it are also online on the RTC web site and the David Miscavige blog.

The presentation goes into great detail on the social programs of the Scientology religion and its application to helping the individual.

Catherine Bell - Scientologist and Human Rights Activist

Actress Catherine Bell is a very outspoken human rights advocate. She is shown here at the benefit dinner held for the Citizens Commission on Human Rights in Beverly Hills in February this year. She is passionate about defending the rights of children and their parents against psychiatric/pharma incursions into parental oversight of their children's welfare.

This photo is part of a picture story in ABC.com today.

Catherine is also a staunch supporter of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program and has provided information on L. Ron Hubbard's effective solutions on rehabilitating offenders through Criminon.

Catherine often attends events at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre.

Actors' Scientology labor custom stirs up questions, but experts say idea isn't anything new.

The Orange County Register

No words were spoken during Kim Binford's labor. When she wanted a back massage, she pointed to her back. When it was time to push, the midwife gave the thumbs-up sign.

It was a "quiet birth."

Which meant that nobody spoke during the experience, in line with what Scientologists advocate.
