L. Ron Hubbard's Philosophy

L. Ron Hubbard Site: My Philosophy

When I tried to study philosophy in school I found it so hidden and esoteric. Then I realized it was largely because the philosophers themselves were confused, and were using their writings to asking questions rather than give answers.

Then when I read L. Ron Hubbard it was almost shocking. What he was saying was so simple, so logical and so easy to understand it was a spiritual double-take for me--realizing I'd actually finally found someone who had something to tell me.

When I read the essay L. Ron Hubbard wrote, called "My Philosophy" it made sense--he was applying his own philosophy in what he communicated.

That's why so much work has been done to preserve and restore all his books and lectures, and why it is so much a part of Scientology to study the original works.

But, if you know how to study (and he even covers that) it's all available to you.

Now they're even available in 15 languages (and the nine beginning books are in 50!).

Actually, Scientology and Dianetics has never been easier to learn.

"The first principle of my own philosophy is that wisdom is meant for anyone who wishes to reach for it. It is the servant of the commoner and king alike and should never be regarded with awe."

"Happiness and strength endure only in the absence of hate. To hate alone is the road to disaster. To love is the road to strength. To love in spite of all is the secret of greatness. And may very well be the greatest secret in this universe." L. Ron Hubbard, founder of the Scientology Religion.

Being a good example | Livingness

Being a good example | Livingness

Whether you realise it or not, you are looked upon as a role model both by children and by other adults.
You don’t think so?
Well, the office junior fresh from school looks up to you; the kids next door have a respect for you, even that colleague who just nods as you walk past thinks that you ‘know your stuff’.
It’s irrelevant whether you actually do ‘know your stuff’ or not. These people lookup to you because of who are (or appear to be), and because of your position at work, or your job in society.
Well, okay, so now what? Usually, you can always do something to improve a condition. For instance, what’s the one thing you can do today to improve the impression you give?
Often it’s the little things that make the difference. Smartly ironed clothes. Getting in on time. Not taking long lunches. Producitng great products without supervision. Not taking part in office gossip.
You can improve the impression that you give quite dramatically – just by working on a small thing until you’ve got it right – and then moving onto the next one.

There's a great series of public service announcements and a book-on-film of The Way to Happiness that goes into this concept in a lot more detail. Great watching.

The Way to Happiness Book on Film

Last summer David Miscavige announced the release of a book on film of the book The Way to Happiness.

It's online on the Way to Happiness website—really worth watching.

Communication -- the Magic Element

When I need a bit of magic in my life I look back over L. Ron Hubbard's tech on Communication. What's really interesting to me is how important communication is in human relations. Just by studying the chapter on Communication in the Scientology Handbook I figure about half the problems people are knocking themselves out over would resolve. (Of course it would ruin most soap operas and a lot of feature length movies whose plots revolve around communication breakdowns).

Couple of years back, David Miscavige announced that free courses on the chapters of this book would be available on the Scientology Volunteer Ministers website and they are. I often send people to that site to get help.

Real People Real Stories

If you feel like you're hitting your head into concrete when you try to get through to someone about drugs, try getting them to watch the videos on the Drug-Free World website. The documentary is very unusual. Edgy, interesting, and people-driven. You hear it from them--how they thought they could get away with it and what it ended up doing to them.

Scientology concerned with rising crime

Crime affects us all. You can lock your doors, but that doesn't get rid of it. And someday, someone may catch you when you aren't watching.

No. We actually better do something about the cause of crime, or things will just continue to deteriorate.

My mom tells how they didn't used to have to lock their doors. Sounds like a myth.

There is a really effective program called Criminon that gets to the underlying cause of crime.

The Scientology web site says this about it:

Three decades of growth in America’s prison population has brought the nation to a sobering threshold: one in every 100 adults in the United States is now confined behind bars. The total prison population is now 2.3 million, the highest number in the world, followed by the much more populous nation of China with 1.5 million. The cost of maintaining the US prison system topped $49 billion in 2007, up from $12 billion in 1987. The figures speak for themselves. And considering the 80 percent recidivism rate, there is desperate need for a workable technology that delivers true and lasting rehabilitation of criminals who can become productive members of society.

Understanding that person who defies understanding

Here are some tips for handling the "I just can't understand him!" syndrome.

Comes from the Scientology

How often have you heard someone say, “I don’t understand him”? Sometimes irrational, unforeseen acts seem to be the norm among our fellows. The fact is, there has never been a workable method to invariably predict human behavior—until now.

L. Ron Hubbard developed just such a method, and it is applicable to all men, without exception.

With this data, it is possible to accurately predict the behavior of a potential spouse, a business partner, employee or friend – -before you commit to a relationship. The risks involved in human interaction can be avoided entirely or minimized when you can infallibly predict how people will behave.

By understanding and using the information in this chapter, all aspects of human relationships will become more productive and more fulfilling. You’ll know who to associate with, who to avoid, and you will be able to help those who are mired in uncomfortable situations with others. Imagine knowing, after a very short time, how people will behave in any given circumstance. You can. Each and every time.

Funny thing about Scientologists

The funny thing about Scientology--if you're like me when I was first checking it out you keep running into people who are Scientologists. And it is really odd because they don't seem to have too much in common...I mean they're in different jobs, from different groups, ethnic backgrounds, interests--but they do have a couple things in common. They listen to you when you talk. They really seem to get it. And they really seem to care. That's what intrigued me enough to go into a Scientology church and look into it personally.

Here's a video that shows you what I mean.

Tonight is the Dianetics event at my org. Tomorrow is the 60th anniversary of Dianetics!

Scientology Churches Celebrate Dianetics 60th Anniversary

May 7, 2010

Churches of Scientology around the world celebrate the original release of the religion’s first book this weekend. Published May 9, 1950, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health became an overnight success and has been a continuing bestseller for 60 years. The work is the anatomy and full description of a portion of the mind that is the source of nightmares, unreasonable fears, upsets and insecurities. More than 20 million copies have been sold.

Based on author L. Ron Hubbard’s researches into the mind and human behavior prior to 1950, its release brought on the spontaneous formation of 750 Dianetics groups around the U.S. and establishment of the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Mr. Hubbard lectured, instructed and otherwise met a staggering demand, while continuing research into the fundamental nature of man culminating in the founding of the Scientology religion in 1952.

Kenya Scout leaders use Scientology Volunteer Ministers methods to help in the wake of Uganda mudslides

Kenya Scouts who trained as Scientology Volunteer Ministers helped in the search and rescue action following mudslides in the Bududa District of Uganda.

UGANDA—A team of Kenya Scouts who are also Scientology Volunteer Ministers traveled to Uganda last month when massive mudslides killed 94 and displaced 30,000 from their homes. Led by Elly Rajab, 22, the Scouts joined Uganda Army rescue workers in their search for 500 people missing in the flood-affected area.

Arriving in Uganda from Nairobi, Rajab and his team learned from survivors in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps and from the Red Cross and the Uganda Army where their help was most needed. With hundreds still missing, the first priority was search and rescue—work that had to be done by hand with shovels and picks, as use of heavy machinery could trigger further landslides on the heavily saturated ground.

The Volunteer Ministers also distributed food and supplies and provided simple but powerful Scientology techniques, called “assists,” developed by L. Ron Hubbard to help people in the camps overcome the disorientation and trauma of losing their homes, families and possessions.

In Nairobi, the previous year Rajab had trained as a Scientology Volunteer Minister to gain practical skills that he and his fellow Scout leaders could use to help the people of their country. After completing free online training in communication skills, conflict resolution, organizational basics and other subjects offered at www.volunteerministers.org, in fall 2009 Rajab arranged for Kenya Scout leaders from Mombasa, Marsabit, Kisumu and Nakuru to join him in Nairobi for a series of seminars provided by a Volunteer Minister sent from United States to Kenya. Since the seminars, the Scout leaders have in turn trained hundreds more Scouts in their own regions in Scientology Volunteer Minister technology.

Scientology-sponsored Youth Group Brings Truth about Drugs to Los Angeles Thai New Year Festival

anti-drug pledge

LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles chapter of the Drug-Free Marshals, sponsored by the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles, joined the festivities of the Songkran Festival, the celebration of Thai New Year, getting kids to pledge to live drug-free lives.

Located just blocks from the heart of Thai Town, the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles joined this year’s Songkran Festival, the celebration of Thai New Year, by helping neighborhood children avoid the tragedy of drug abuse. Scientology volunteers distributed copies of The Truth About Drugs drug-education booklets and “swore in children” as Drug-Free Marshals, a program that encourages youth to pledge to live drug-free lives and help their friends and family do the same.

Thai New Year, celebrated each year in April, is a time of renewal, marked by lighthearted fun and enthusiasm. Several blocks of Hollywood Boulevard were closed to traffic and filled with hundreds of booths, offering a variety of Thai products including food and beverages, clothing and gifts. There were also booths from community programs including the Drug-Free Marshals.

“Every 12 seconds another school-age child experiments with illicit drugs for the first time,” said Noelle North, Outreach Program Coordinator for the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles. “Our aim with the Drug-Free Marshals is to reach children with the truth about drugs before they succumb to peer pressure or pro-drug false propaganda.”

The Drug-Free Marshals program was founded by the Church of Scientology International in Los Angeles 17 years ago. The non-denominational program has been adopted by individuals and organizations throughout the United States and in many other countries as well.

Haiti Relief blog: personal accounts of Scientology Volunteers that were in Haiti

Scientology Volunteer Ministers come from all walks of life but what unifies them is their purpose to help. Fascinating personal accounts of Haiti Volunteers can be found in many places but we'd like to recommend a few.

Blood Donation Drive - Church of Scientology

SCIENTOLOGISTS from the church’s national headquarters in Dundas lost a lot of blood over the last two weeks, but it was no accident.

Rather the members of one of the youngest religions were trying to help those who had been in road accidents during the holidays by donating blood.

Cyrus Brooks from the church led a group of almost 20 Scientologists, some of whom live at the Dundas base, to give blood at the Red Cross in Parramatta.

He said he was moved to action by the holiday road toll.

“You hear the holiday road tolls and it’s the sad part of the holidays,” he said. “I heard that over the holidays specifically, the supply of blood is very low. That was the kicker for me to get involved.”

Mr Brooks had to cajole some of his fellow parishioners to donate for the first time, but said they were happy they did.

“There was the apprehension of giving blood, the apprehension of the needle, but they felt really good about it,” he said.

“They realised it wasn’t going to kill them to donate, and it’s a gift you can’t buy.”

He said giving blood fitted in with the life that Scientologists are expected to live.

“It’s part of our faith that you contribute to society,” he said.
